what to wear

It’s the universal question “what do I wear?” I can’t the answer of what you should wear to that baby shower coming up, or to your best friends birthday party, but I can help with some tips on how to put together the best outfit for your photo shoot!

COMBINE COLORS

Solid colors usually work best: this allow all attention to be on you & not your outfit! If there is more than one person in the picture, try to coordinate colors so that they work well together. You don’t need to wear the same colors, actually please don’t, just make sure they coordinate well!

COMPLEMENTARY COLORS

Choose colors from the opposite sides of the color wheel (complementary colors), or the colors adjacent to each other (harmonious colors). If choosing colors isn’t your strong suit, I found this Color Scheme Designer http://colorschemedesigner.com/ that is easy to use and will let you get a general feel for different color combination! If all else fails you can always contact me & I will help you work through your color combinations!

AVOID PATTERNS

Patterns create visual “noise” and can cause a distraction from the main subject.. YOU!
If you do want to wear a pattern make sure it small & consistant like a checkered or striped shirt.

WEAR DENIM

When all else fails…. wear jeans.
You can’t go wrong with a cute top, lots of accessories & your favorite pair of jeans!

LAYER UP

Layering is the easiest way to create varied looks with out going through all to work of actually changing! Layering clothing also photographs fabulously….

…..think scarves, vest, jackets, sweater …..

ACCESSORIZE

To create the best portrait possible you want your personality to come screaming through! Props & accessories allow that to happen!

Bring your favorite necklaces, earrings, rain boots, scarves, watches, hats, headbands, cello, tennis outfit, soccer ball, prom dress whatever you love & creates a unique YOU by all bring it along!

For children’s portraits bring their favorite blanket, toy, book etc.

FAMILIES AND ENGAGEMENTS

Dress for the same season, If you are bundled up in a cute jacket & scarf, make sure anyone else being photographed with you isn’t in a t-shirt & shorts.. it throws the picture off a bit!:)

YOU
